Charity Bike Ride – We did it!

Our charity bike ride is now complete and what a great success it was.

The team of amateur cyclists congregated at the firm’s North Lancashire office in the centre of Garstang, on Friday 4th September.  A chilly start to the day was to eventually reveal sunshine and the threat of rain having disappeared certainly kept spirits more lively.

Departing just after the proposed off time of 9.00am the eight riders set off in a northerly direction (away from the final destination) heading towards the northerly point of the route at Crook O’Lune.  Some “hillier than expected” roads were accompanied by stunning views and equally thrilling downhill sections.  One of the team member’s chain broke at this point and here David was ably assisted by Emma in the support vehicle with a lift to Halfords in Lancaster where Dean and Daz assisted immediately.

The cyclists re-congregated together on the other side of Lancaster at the Stork Public House in Condor Green for some homemade cake and then progressed on the southerly journey through the village of Pilling to the lunch time stop at the Cartford Inn at Little Eccleston.

It is always hard to get going again after lunch but the onward journey continued to give excellent views of the Fylde Plain culminating in a pit stop at the Grapes in Wrea Green.

The final lengths of the 70 mile section accomplished on Friday took the team through Treales, Woodplumpton, Bilsborrow and back up to Garstang with the small matter of Bowgreave Hill to deal with before a gentle downhill section and the Garstang one way system were completed, meeting back at the office around 6.00pm.

Day two was from the same point that day one finished but this time a 55 mile route was planned taking the team in a southerly direction down the A6 and then heading easterly to Longridge.  The route back to and from Longridge allowed some other chartered surveyors to join the team on their day out and they stayed together until reaching the most southerly point of the Guild Wheel and Avenham Park where a picnic lunch was provided by the supporters.

From Preston City Centre the old tram road took the team out to Bamber Bridge, Whitestake and Longton, having passed through Longton the villages of Bretherton, Croston and Mawdesley were all visited before the team’s South Lancashire office in Burscough, the final destination, was reached and  visit to the Hop Vine pub rounded off an amazing journey.

A big thank you to all our supporters who helped us reach our target of raising £1000 for each charity, in fact we smashed this target and have raised over £3500!
